CHICAGO – A semi-truck driver is being charged with 26 felony counts after crashing into a school bus carrying 23 student athletes and their two coaches in Warsaw, Indiana on Saturday, November 12. The driver, who was found to have failed a sobriety test at the time of the crash, was seen swerving and speeding prior to the collision. As of Wednesday, November 23, two of the St. Ignatius students remain hospitalized and in critical condition, while three others were upgraded to stable condition.
In addition to the 26 counts (four for causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle and 22 for criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon), Warsaw police have said that more charges may be possible due to the intoxication level of the driver. Bond is currently set at $75,000.
