Our team of Chicago personal injury lawyers at Morici, Figlioli & Associates is pleased to announce that Attorney David Figlioli, our founding partner, will be awarded the Italian American Police Association’s 2016 Man of the Year Award on November 5 at the Alta Villa Banquets in Addison, Illinois.
As a former police sergeant, Figlioli has dedicated his life to safeguarding the rights of law enforcement officers and other first responders who have suffered injuries while on the job. Now, the IAPA would like to recognize him for his ceaseless efforts. Tony Langone, the president of the IAPA, explains, “Every step of his professional career, Dave has dedicated himself to helping others […] It’s a privilege to be able to present him with this award.” When asked about this honor, Figlioli states:
I was both surprised and humbled when I was told by the Association that I was to be their “Man of the Year” for 2016. I come from a family of first responders; my father retired from the Chicago Police Department after 40 years of service, and my younger brother is a lieutenant in the Chicago Fire Department. This, along with my personal experience as a police officer, provided me with insights as to how difficult and challenging their jobs are and how important it is for me to fully represent them when they are injured while performing their job duties. I am so very honored to be recognized by such a venerable organization as the IAPA whose members sacrifice so much to serve the citizens of their respective municipalities.
About Figlioli’s Experience in the Police Force
Figlioli joined the police departments of Mt. Prospect in 1979, Schaumburg in 1980, and Chicago in 1982, where he served for nine years. He moved on to join the elite Gangs North Unit. While part of that unit, he worked alongside some of the most dedicated and talented veterans on the force. Figlioli explains:
I worked initially in the tactical enforcement side of the unit and then was promoted to a gang specialist, where we conducted investigations into gang related homicides and other major crimes. I had wonderful supervisors who rewarded you when you did well and I worked with and learned from guys with 15, 20 years of experience. Their knowledge was unbelievable. They were quality people who loved their jobs and worked well together.
He then began attending law school in order to advance his career in the law enforcement agency, earning the rank of sergeant while attending John Marshall Law School and working for the CPD full-time. It was here that Figlioli found his true calling. After graduating magna cum laude, Figlioli launched into his career as a personal injury attorney. Since then, he has successfully stood for the rights of those harmed in preventable accidents and incidents.
About The Italian American Police Association
The Italian American Police Association was founded in 1963 when a group of police officers of Italian American heritage saw the need for a fraternal organization to promote education, training, and the exchange of knowledge in the field of law enforcement. In addition, the officers were and remain dedicated to fighting against discrimination and prejudice against all people. Currently, the Association has over 500 members who are employed as law enforcement officers throughout the state of Illinois.
