Illinois man pays court order of $150,000 in quarters

An Illinois man was court-ordered to repay a sum of $500,000 in insurance money, but he decided to pay off a portion of that legal settlement in quarters.

The man has been in a legal battle since the death of his son who died in a car accident in 2001. The son was in a car with two other individuals when a truck failed to stop at an intersection and crashed into their vehicle seriously injuring everyone inside and killing the son. Since then, the families involved have been in court over how the insurance money should be allocated.

Originally, a judge ruled in favor of the Illinois man and awarded him the most compensation of $600,000 because his son died in the accident. He also received an additional lump sum of over $1.6 million from another insurance coverage. As a result, the other victims appealed the decision and over-turned the ruling. The appellate court ordered a refund and ruled to increase the share for the other victims. The returned money will be distributed among the survivors.in protest to the appeal court's decision in his son's wrongful death case.

In protest to the appeal court's decision in his son's wrongful death case, the Illinois man then decided to repay the money in quarters.
