al condition after being struck by a Metra train on the Northwest Side this afternoon, officials said.
The accident happened at about 3 p.m. as a group teens ran across the tracks near the intersection of Northwest Highway and Nagle Avenue, said Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.
The other teens made it across, he said. The injured teen was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, Langford said.
The accident occurred less than half a mile from Taft High School.
The accident involved a UP Northwest Line train that left
Harvard at about 1:35 p.m. and was due downtown at about 3:23 p.m., said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis. It was still stopped at the scene of the accident as of 3:30 p.m.
The crossing recently topped a list of dangerous crossings in the six-county
Chicago region, according to data from the Illinois Commerce Commission. The crossing at Nagle had five vehicle-train accidents from 2005 to 2009.
