A movie extra from Chicago who was working on a scene of "Transformers 3" being shot in Hammond, Ind. was seriously injured Wednesday night during a stunt when a flying object crashed through the windshield of her car and hit her, according to the Indiana State Police.
Gabriela Cedillo, 24, of Chicago, was the extra driving on a closed portion of the Cline Avenue extension, Indiana State Police said.
Shortly before 7 p.m., the movie crew was filming a stunt using numerous vehicles and drivers, police said. During the stunt a metal object of some kind struck a 2006 Toyota, hitting the vehicle, and then went through the windshield striking Cedillo, who was driving her own car. She was an extra and not a member of the stunt crew, police said.
The Toyota continued moving and hitting the inner median concrete barrier wall for almost a mile before coming to a stop.
Cedillo was airlifted to Loyola University Hospital in Maywood with a serious head injury, police said.
The Toyota had extensive damage to its driver's side.
Meanwhile, Thursday marks the final scheduled day of filming in Chicago for the "Transformers 3" movie.
