A sport-utility vehicle crashed and burst into flames ending up on a sidewalk on Midway Airport property early Friday on the Southwest Side, according to the fire department. The Chevrolet Tahoe was southbound on Cicero Avenue at 59th Street when it bounced off a center divider, flipped and caught fire on the sidewalk area of Cicero Avenue -- technically airport property, Chicago Fire Department Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
Fire department crews had righted the vehicle and were tending to the fire as of 3:15 a.m., Langford said. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, Langford said. No other vehicles were involved and southbound Cicero Avenue near the wreck was blocked as of 3:15 a.m., according to Langford.
