Motorcyclist dead in I-80 crash

(JOLIET) A 35-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was operating crashed on I-80 near southwest suburban Joliet late Tuesday.

The accident happened at 11:49 p.m. on eastbound I-80 near Center Street when the motorcycle crashed and one person was killed, according to Illinois State Police Joliet District Master Sgt. Bryan Falat.

The operator of the motorcycle was identified as Morgan M. Topel, 35, of New Lenox, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office. Topel was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:25 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.

The cause and manner of death will be determined pending traffic, autopsy and toxicological reports, according to the coroner’s office.

Falat said at 2:20 a.m. that all lanes were open and the accident site had been cleaned up.

An ISP Joliet District dispatcher said no other vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred in Joliet Township.
