A man is in “extremely critical” condition after he was struck by a car Saturday night in a hit-and-run crash in the Far South Side Altgeld Gardens community.

Witnesses told police a light-colored car struck a pedestrian at 7:49 p.m. on the 12900 block of South Indiana Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

The witness said he was driving south on South Indiana Avenue when he saw a light-colored car hit a pedestrian and flee east on East 130th Street, Kubiak said.

The witnesses stopped, checked on the 38-year-old pedestrian and called 911, Kubiak said. Paramedics took the man in “extremely critical” condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A description of the motorist was not immediately available, and the vehicle is described only as a light-colored car -- possibly a Chrysler 300, Kubiak said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police Major Accident Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521.
