A 60-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash this morning in Monroe County and police are looking for a man who may have witnessed the accident.
Elaine D. Hinton of Saylorsburg was pronounced dead shortly after the Stroud Township crash that happened just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Tanite Road and Route 209, according to Stroud Area Regional police.
Police said Hinton was traveling east on Tanite Road in a Volkswagen Jetta when she traveled into the path of a Freightliner box truck heading south on Route 209. Police said the truck driver, Charles H. Leppert, 38, of Runnemede, N.J., was taken to Pocono Medical Center to be treated for general body pain.
Police said they don't believe speed to be a factor in the crash, but are still trying to determine if Hinton stopped at a posted sign.
Police believe there were at least three witnesses to the crash, but only two remained at the scene. Police are looking for a possible witness, only described as a heavy-set white man, who was on the sidewalk close to the crash site.
Any witnesses to the crash may call police at 570-421-6800.
