An elderly woman was killed and four others were injured in a three-vehicle crash that shut down a busy intersection for about an hour Friday evening in northwest suburban Bartlett, police said. The crash was reported about 6:30 p.m. at Route 59 and Army Trail Road, according to Bartlett Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Dave Meisner.
The crash involved three vehicles, including two sport-utility vehicles and a smaller car, according to Bartlett Police Sgt. Mike Rummell. An elderly woman, a passenger in the smaller vehicle, was killed in the crash, Meisner said. Four other people were taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield with non-life threatening injuries, Meisner said. Meisner said the crash happened in a "very busy intersection."
The four-lane intersection was shut down in both directions for about an hour as police investigated the crash, Rummell said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not confirm the fatality at 10 p.m. The cause of the crash remained under investigation Friday night by Bartlett police.
